The project concerns the design of a handmade jewelry store and workshop in the historic center of Thessaloniki.
The main design challenge was the small elevation of the space (2.80m) which combined with the depth (4.60m) creates an elongated volume with limited natural lighting.
The small showcase had to attract customers' interest and reflect the store's philosophy, while at the same time the interior space was designed to be easy to use and functional.
On the glass facade of the space, a box to box volume with custom exhibition constructions houses the products which, with the appropriate lighting, play a leading role and emerge from the dark background.
Inside and centrally in the space, a large surface welcomes the visitor and allows the owner to present his products. Around it, storage cabinets and glass display cases house more pieces from the artist's collection, while mirrors allow the customer to try on the products. In the background is the owner's office with the store's cash protected by the display and presentation surface of the store.
A hidden door built into the masonry leads to the private areas, w.c. and laboratory.
Materials and lighting played a dominant role in the design. In the context of the creation of a modern aesthetic space in which jewelry will be the protagonist, functional and practical materials, close to those used by the artist in his work were chosen. Metal and glass were used for the construction of all the custom constructions which remained simple, without unnecessary details, while the spot lighting was used to highlight the part that illuminates each time.
The lighting is divided into zones and controlled in such a way that the owner can choose what to highlight during the night hours and when the store remains closed.
